Whatcha Macallit

FlisKits is working hard to meet the needs of educators around the country and the Whatchamacallit is a direct result of educator feedback. Featuring the same Jig-TechTM technology as found in the Thing-a-ma-Jig kit, the Whatchamacallit addresses several other educator concerns. First is assembly ease. The Jig-TechTM fins take care of that in a hurry, allowing assembly in about an hour with a typical classroom. The simplified engine mount and streamer recover help contribute to this as well. Next comes cost. The smaller Whatchamacallit costs less and also makes use of the lower cost 13mm mini motors. Then we have issues with field size. Not every school has huge athletic fields to fly in and have to rely on small play grounds and the like. 13mm motors going as small as 1/4A size, coupled with streamer recovery makes this the perfect small field rocket! An experienced builder can assemble the Whatchamacallit in under 15 minutes!

The real key to the popularity of this kit is the Jig-Tech fin unit. The figure below gives you an example of what this technology is and how it can result in a simple to build rocket with a perfect fit and straight fins every time! From left to right, you slip the pats of one fin into the slots of another. You then take the remaining (3rd) fin and attach it as shown in the center. The result is a triangular arrangement that holds itself together as the glue dries. The triangular opening in the center is sized to perfectly fit the body tube of the model.
The image on the left shows the assembled Whatchamacallit without paint (so that you can clearly see the Jig-TechTM fin assembly. Shown with the rocket is a standard 13mm motor. Below that you will see an actual figure from the assembly instructions, showing the fin assembly in detail.
